Previously on an administrator could change the course number for a course offering. If the course number is changed for a course offering that does not have a permanent id, then give the course offering a permanent id and add the permanent id to any last like demand data associated with the course offering. Examination conflicts: query returning overlapping course meetings with required attendance improved Add Event: fixed a problem with creating a course event with >1000 students Enrollment Audits: Ensure the correct enrollment is used for the audit results when a student is enrolled in multiple names of a cross listed course. 3.1.270 Saturday, 24 Jul 2010 PDF Exam reports Reports Queue Process only one report at a time by putting all requests for a PDF exam report into a queue. Display current queue (of PDF exam reports) on the page, if it is not empty. There is also an ability to delete a request from the queue before it is processed. Also show reports (including log and output files) that were finished during the last hour. Exam Verification Report -- Class not full-term message Fixed an issue with the message not being printed in some cases (POL 10100). Session Roll-Forward After rolling forward last like demand data, update the last like demand counts on the Course Offerings. Fix bug where solver groups were not being placed on the timetable managers during roll forward. Data Exchange Student Enrollment Import Update class / course enrollments by default. Fixed the queries that do the update to work on MySQL as well. Other When a manager of a class is changed, not only delete all related class assignments (class belongs to a different problem), but also delete the related class event. This (class having an event associated but no committed assignment) was causing a problem on the Class Assignment page. 3.1.264 Tue, 25 May 2010 Student Sectioning Added a set of Enrollment Audit PDF reports. Enrollments Violating Course Structure - This report lists where students are enrolled in a class that has a parent class but the student is not enrolled in the parent class. Missing Course Enrollments - This report lists where student are enrolled in a course offering but are not enrolled in a class in each of the subparts within a configuration of the courses offering. Multiple Course Enrollments - This reports lists where students are enrolled in more than one class within a subpart. If a student is allowed to enroll in a course offering more than once in a term this student will be listed here as well. Session Roll-Forward Fixed bug that occurred when rolling forward courses that do not have a unique subject area and course number. Added functionality to push class time patterns up to the scheduling subpart level as part of the roll forward of scheduling subparts. Fixed bug with rolling forward a room preference for a room that does not have an external id. The course offering roll forward is being modified to do the following: 1. An option has been added to allow the user to select whether or not to roll forward subpart level time preferences. The default is for these preferences to roll forward as is. Required stays required, prohibited stays prohibited, etc. If the user chooses not to roll forward subpart level time preferences the time patterns will remain but the time preferences for those patterns a removed. 2. An option has been added to allow the user to select whether or not to roll forward subpart level location preferences. The default is for these preferences is to roll forward as is. If the user chooses not to roll forward subpart level location preferences, no room, building, room feature or room group preferences are moved forward. 3. An option has been added to allow the user to promote appropriate class preferences to the subpart level. The default is to do nothing with class level preferences. If the user selects to promote the appropriate class preferences to the subpart level and the scheduling subpart does not already have a room preference, then any room preferences that exist on all classes within a scheduling subpart are moved to the subpart level as is. The same rule applies to building, room group, and room feature preferences. In this case required stays required, prohibited stays prohibited, etc. If a scheduling subpart does not have any time patterns assigned to it, all time patterns on its child classes will be pushed up the the subpart level. In addition if the same time preference exists on all classes within a scheduling subpart and does not contain any requires or prohibits then that time preference is also moved to the subpart level. PDF Exam reports speedup Preloading student exam enrollments (this broke with the change for cross-listed exams). Preloading Class_ -> ClassEvent relation. When solver is used, preload crosslisted exams (solver does not know about them, it takes too long to load them one by one). Removed relation Class_-> sectioningInfo (using SectioningInfo -> Class_ instead where needed) to avoid unnecessary queries. Few other small changes. Configuration Hibernate DTDs bundled with the application. This is to avoid application deployment problems when Hibernate is unable to validate configuration because of a poor internet connection. It contains a semicolon separated list of authentication modules with their configuration flag. Class assignment: Avoid throwing an exception when given dates are empty (this fixes the issue with SCI 90900 Ind 1). Modified Time Pattern Edit to allow a time pattern that is in use to be edited if the session is in the Initial Data Load status and the "tmtbl.time_pattern.initial_data_load.editable" application property is set to true. By default this value is "false". If a time pattern is edited in this state, all time preferences that refer to the time pattern will have their preference string set back to null. This is because modifying a time pattern changes the layout of the preference string for that time pattern so existing preferences using that time pattern are no longer valid. 3.1.248 Tue, 13 Mar 2010 Timetable page (containing the time grid) Added following properties in order to be able to change the periods in which the time is printed (30 minutes periods starting 7:30am by default). If the user enters 9999 in the field when they leave the field the value is set to 0. Remove restriction from Instructional Offering Configuration edit page that prevented the user from creating more than one class per scheduling subpart when working with a configuration marked as having unlimited enrollment. Added display of infinity symbol to limits column for classes that are part of unlimited enrollment configurations. Changed drunken 8 to be a true infinity symbol. Limit size of number of classes field to 3 digits on the Configuration Edit screen. Class Assignment The functionality concerning checking of past events corrected: Check for all events when tmtbl.classAssign.ignorePastMeetings is false (default is true) Only do not check for past non-class events (classes are checked for conflicts later in update() using their date patterns, the former behavior was causing an inconsistency when a conflicting room was shown as non-conflicting) Also do not check for past events when a different room availability than default is use Toggle "Do not unassign conflicting classes" moved to a more appropriate place (under the table with new assignments). The conflicting assignments are now recomputed on change. Added ability to filter the list of rooms by room types, global room groups and global room features. Fixed broken compatibility with Java 5. 3.1.241 Tue, 16 Feb 2010 Administration Allow the user to override the name information retrieved from LDAP. Validate field lengths on department edit screen. Added ability to mark a role for a Timetable Manager as wanting to receive email or not. Also added a check into the exam pdf report email functionality to check to see of the department schedule manager is set to receive email. If the manager is not the report is not sent to them. Fix bug when adding a new timetable manager. Instructors Added hook to delete of instructor to allow external code to be called for the classes associated with the delete. Do not set the instructor external id to the string "null". Added instructor name format of last-first-middle. Added ability to call external code for classes changed when an instructor is removed from a department's list of instructors. Added dialog to confirm the user wants to unassign all instructors for a course offering when the user clicks the "Unassign All" button. It the user does not wish to see confirmation dialogs this dialog is not displayed. Manage Instructor List, Edit Instructor Information: it is no longer allowed to delete an instructor that has classes or exams assigned to him/he. Class Assignments A very minimalistic version of the ability to reassign a class without using the interactive solver added. See http://wiki.unitime.org/Class_Assignment for more details. In some cases the user needs to have more than one class assigned to the same room at the same time. The database solver did not allow for that situation to occur. I have added support to allow the user to check a box that says "Do not unassign conflicting class assignments" in the room filter. Checking this box tells the database solver to ignore room conflicts and instructor conflicts when making the assignment. This prevents the database solver from unassigning classes with these types of conflicts when the user puts a class into a room. Also, locations that are marked as ignore room checks no longer cause classes that have conflicting assignments to become unassigned when an additional class is assigned to the location. The location is still shown with a line through it if there are conflicting assignments so the user knows they are selecting a location that has conflicts. Added room type to data shown in location mouse over on database solver page. On the Exam Assignment and Class Assignment pages, changed code so <br> is treated as html rather than text when there is more than one instructor. Also, on the Class Assignment Page, changed the "Lead Instructor(s)" label to be "Conflict Checked Instructors". Class offline assignment -- allow assignment of rooms for classes with zero limit. When working in the current term, if a class needed to be moved into a room that has events that have occurred within the term but prior to now, the room was not available for the class. I have changed the code so the Class Assignment page will ignore events that have occurred in the past. In order for the page to allow classes to be moved into rooms that have events that occurred "today" but earlier in the day, the page must also ignore all events that occur "today". Side bar menu Added link to Event Management Documentation to the help menu. Added hooks to menu so that custom web pages could be added to the Course Timetabling menu. Allow certain functionality on the side bar menu to be turned off for non admin users through editing of application properties. tmtbl.menu.display_course_timetabling - If false the Course Timetabling side bar menu will not be displayed. tmtbl.menu.display_student_sectioning - If false the Student Sectioning side bar menu will not be displayed. tmtbl.menu.display_exam_timetabling - If false the Examination Timetabling side bar menu will not be displayed. tmtbl.menu.display_personal_schedule - If false the Personal Schedule side bar menu will not be displayed. tmtbl.menu.display_event_management - If false the Event Management side bar menu will not be displayed. If these values are not set they default to true which means if the user has rights to view the menu the user will see the menu. Examination timetabling: fixed a typo (two small room), anticipate negative solution values in Great Deluge. Database Changes Increase allowed size of the classSuffix field in a Class_ to be 10. Added enrollments total to classes and course offerings. Propagated the display of enrollments throughout the user interfaces where appropriate. Updated the student enrollment load to update the student enrollment counts on classes and course offerings. Update dbupdate.xml to create and initialize the new columns. If tmtbl.exam.name.expandCrosslistedOfferingToCourses property is set to true (default is false), offering is expanded to all courses for naming purposes. This means that the exam is named after all the courses, not just the controlling one. More weird exam names when tmtbl.exam.name.expandCrosslistedOfferingToCourses is true (e.g., a class exam is named multiple times with all the courses in the offering). The user can set the property tmtbl.nonUniversityLocation.pattern to a regular expression in order to specify a specific pattern the Non University Location names must conform to. If tmtbl.nonUniversityLocation.pattern is not set the name is checked to make sure it only contains the standard set valid characters. tmtbl.nonUniversityLocation.patternInfo can be used to provide an error message when the name does not match the regular expression. User Access Added temporary user lockout when user exceeds maximum failed login attempt limit. This is configurable with the following parameters tmtbl.login.max.failed.attempts - used to set the number of failed login attempts that causes a user to be logged out. Defaults to 7. tmtbl.login.failed.lockout.minutes - used to set the number of minutes the user is locked out of the system before they can attempt to log in again. Defaults to 15 minutes. tmtbl.login.failed.delay.milliseconds - used to set the amount of delay in responding to the user with a failed login error message after the user has made more than max failed attempts + 3 attempts to log in. Defaults to 15000 milliseconds. Added a new filter that checks user access based on the rules defined in tiles-defs.xml (checkLogin, checkAdmin, checkRole etc.). This should avoid log file to be full of exceptions caused by users with invalid session (when user access the application after a long time of inactivity). All the functionality should remain as it is, especially since the same check is already being done in pageLayout.jsp. Only allow authenticated users to access temp files. Data Exchange Added support for one time Event loads through the xml interface. The event load can be used to populate the event system with the events from a different system. The event load process does not check for duplicate events. Therefore if an event already exists in the Event system and an xml file with the same event is load, then the event will exist two times in the event system. Updated Last Like Course Demand Import to create students if they don't already exists. Also allowed the use of an external id to look up a course offering. Refactored Course Offering import to make it easier to create customized imports that can inherit from a base course offering import. Staff Import - Surrounded conversion of externalId to a number with a try catch statement. This fixes bug where an external id was expected to be a number but was not. Add additional info to logging output from Student Enrollment Import. Changed the course offering import to move the end date of a class to the classes end date for the session if the end date of the class falls between the classes end date and the end of the session. Course Offering Import: Added hooks for customized code on various places. CourseOfferingImport - Update event information if the related information has changed on the class. In course offering import, modified code to match the sis_ref if it is used instead of the itype abbreviation in the import file. Academic Session Import: Import additional fields: examBegin (defaults to classesEnd), eventBegin (defaults to beginDate), eventEnd (defaults to endDate), and dateFormat (optional, defaults to the format that was used before) Student Enrollment Import: Fix bug where course enrollment counts were not being updated. A problem with import of course requests fixed (courses were not imported for new students). Course Offering Import: Make sure a unique date pattern is returned when searching for a matching date pattern. Course Offering Export: To be consistent with the import, export instructor share as integer 0 - 100 (not as a double 0.00 - 1.00). Course Timetabling Fixed problem with the automatically generated same student constraints. Fixed bug in removeDivSecNumbers() that occurred when the classSuffix was less that 6 digits but was expected to be 6 digits. Added option not to weight last-like students to fill up all the sections completely. Set the default of General.WeightStudents to true (weight last-like students so that each section is filled completely) to preserve the original behavior. Course timetabling -- database load loading of committed student enrollments speedup (from 8 to 2 minutes in my test) added a solver option not to load committed student conflicts at all (saves about 2 minutes in my test) put the solver option not to weight last-like students into the database (not visible by default) Fix bug that occurred on commit when a class was moved from one problem to another. In other words Class A was committed as part of the solution for Problem A then Class A was moved to Problem B and when the user attempted to commit solution for Problem B the commit failed because Class A already had an event associated with Problem A. Course Timetable -- added ability to display instructor name(s) instead of the three numbers in the grid. Class Schedule: display correct class suffix for cross-listed classes Course Offerings The user interfaces have been updated to allow a course number to be used multiple times within a single subject area if the tmtbl.courseNumber.unique parameter is set to false. If you set tmtbl.courseNumber.unique to false you must removed the unique key UK_COURSE_OFFERING_SUBJ_CRS and its corresponding index in the 'course_offering' table. Property tmtbl.courseNumber.unique defaults to true. Fixed the Course Offering Edit form to validate the course number matches the regular expression used to define how course numbers should be formatted. Fix error that occurred when controlling course offering was null. This could occur during the course import process when courses that are removed by the import are deleted. Fixed bug with Ajax code where the call was failed when the title for a course offering was set to null. Room Availability Fixed bug with room availability not always detecting a cache available for the time frame being looked at. Fixed bug in DefaultRoomAvailabilityService where the actual time a meeting has a room reserved was not being considered. Room availability interface changes activate and timestamp calls now include event type that should be excluded (this is to avoid loading events that will be excluded by type later, if the implementation allows for that) only one event type can be excluded (there is no need to exclude more) Ensure the hibernate session is closed when a user gets a Stack Overflow error on clicking on a link. Academic Sessions Fixed NullPointerException thrown when eventBeginTime/eventEndTime is not set. Changes made to support academic session dates crossing a year boundary. An academic session still cannot contain more than 12 continuous calendar months, but those months may now cross the year boundary. Also, date patterns can begin up to 3 months before the start of a session and end up to 3 months after the start of a session. Date patterns also have the limitation of not being able to cover more than 12 continuous calendar months from start to end. Updated default session selection to default based on user role when there is only one academic initiative. Undo of a tested placement or assignment of a suggestion was done in a way that did not anticipated a possibility of a different set of conflicting classes to be returned (different than during assignment of the tested placement / suggestion). To overcome this problem, all assignments that are to be changed need to be unassigned first, and then assigned to the new values.
